Budget Airline Travel Tips

1. Avoid the car hire queue
As soon as they open the plane doors at Carcassonne or Toulouse send one of your party ahead of everyone else, straight through passport control and baggage claim to the front of the car hire desk. Don't all wait for the baggage to turn up and then queue for the car hire.

2. Watch out for crafty extra charges
Ryanair have introduced a check-in charge. If you want to book a bag into the aircraft hold you must check in at the airport, which will cost you £4.75 per passenger, per way, if you book online and a whopping £10 per passenger, per way if you pay at the airport or over the phone. And it doesn’t matter if only one person in your party takes a bag, everyone else still has to pay to check in at the airport too.

3. The baggage charge
Ryanair charge £9.50 per bag, per flight. Or £19 if you book at the airport or over the phone. Easyjet opt for a £8 charge per bag and be sure to opt
out on the website if you don't want to take hold baggage

4. The sneaky weight limit
Ryanair set its weight limit for hold luggage at 15kg catching the majority of passengers off guard.
You’re not allowed to pool bags either so, even if you have a party of four sharing luggage, if the bag weighs 16kg you will be charged
£14 per additional kilo.
Easyjet allows 20kg for each piece of hold luggage
